Deluge on the Delta: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927

As you know, we have revised the 2006 schedule due to the effects of Katrina on our cruise programs. One exciting change is the replacement of the Reunion Cruise with a land package covering the massive flooding of the Mississippi River in 1927. Based on the best-selling book Rising Tide by John M. Barry, our journey will take us from Memphis to New Orleans with two of our most popular Historian Guides, Jack Waugh and Ed Bearss.

No natural disaster in American history, before or since, had such far-reaching consequences — geographically, politically, culturally, and socially. Detailed information will be in the mail to you soon, but word of mouth already has generated lots of sign ups. Don't delay! Call 1-800-628-8542 to make your reservations today!

The Battle of Horseshoe Bend — Resounding Success

Our group of 40 experienced a vivid re-telling of one of the most controversial phases of Andrew Jackson's long career. Beginning at the Hermitage and ending in Seminole country, Historian Guide Ed Bearss led us on a journey centering on the expulsion of Native Americans from the eastern half of the continent to the Indian Territory.

Here, posing at the Suwannee River, are the HistoryAmerica Regulars. You may see group photos from other tours by visiting Group Photos on the website.

News Bits From HistoryAmerica

Our good friend Richard McMurry received the prestigious Nevins-Freeman Award at the September meeting of the Civil War Round Table of Chicago. Well known for his emphasis on the western theater of the Civil War, Richard is a very deserving recipient of the award. We are proud to have Richard as one of our Hisorian Guides for the April Mississippi Queen cruise, which focuses on battlefield preservation.

Also honored recently is renowned historian Edwin C. Bearss. Watch newsstands for the November edition of Smithsonian Magazine. Ed is credited as one of 35 individuals who made a difference in our lives. He has certainly made a difference in the lives of hundreds of HistoryAmerica participants!

And we honor our own HistoryAmerica Regular Marty Walsh, who now has completed 30 tours with us. He reached this milestone on the Horseshoe Bend tour in October. It has been a pleasure to travel with Marty over the years, and we hope to see him many, many times in the future.
